a. Is my teen eligible to participate in an adventure activity?

  • Any teen between the ages of 14-18 that is a dependent of active military including National Guard and Reserve units is eligible to participate.  Some exceptions may be considered on an individual case by case basis.  If you have any questions regarding eligibility or possible exceptions you will need to contact the Program Director, Kevin C. Powers for assistance.  He can be reached by email at kcpowers@wsu.edu at WSU Chelan County Extension 400 Washington Street Wenatchee, WA 98801 or by telephone at 509-667-6540.

c. What is the cost for these activities?

  • All our Military Teen Adventures have been created with the idea in mind that we want to make it possible for as many teens to participate in these activities as possible.  Outside of a $25.00 registration fee (which allows us to provide every participant with T-shirt and water bottle), all meals, accommodations, equipment and supplies are provided at no cost to you.

d. Is there assistance with travel?

  • There is no cost for travel for families of teens residing within the Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana region.

For teens residing outside of the region, transportation scholarships are available up to a maximum amount of $350.00.  Funds are provided on a reimbursement basis upon completion of the camp or activity with documentation of the actual travel expense (e.g. airline ticket, bus pass, train ticket etc).  Payment is typically made within three weeks of all required documentation being submitted for processing.

Once your teen arrives in the region all transportation expenses to the camp or activity and back to the pick-up location are covered at no cost to the family.

e. How does my teen get to an adventure activity?

  • There are two parts to this question.  First, we provide transportation to all camps and activities for teens within the Northwest region of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.  Specific details will be arranged for any teen within this region to get to the activity they have registered for at no cost to the family.

Second, families with teens traveling from outside the region are responsible for getting them to a designated pick-up location within the region for each specific trip.  Families can request assistance with travel costs to the region.

f. Can a parent join in on a camp or activity?

  • We have had several requests asking about parent/teen trips and activities.  At this time the program activities are designed and structured specifically for teens with limited slots available for participants on most scheduled dates.  We welcome parent involvement and have hope to be able to offer parent/teen trips at some point in the future.  There may be some limited opportunities for a parent to join us as an additional chaperone or volunteer.  Please contact the Program Director, Kevin C. Powers for assistance or with any questions.  He can be reached by email at kcpowers@wsu.edu at WSU Chelan County Extension 400 Washington Street Wenatchee, WA 98801 or by telephone at 509-667-6540.

g. What will my teen need to wear and bring to an adventure activity?

  • You will be provided with a detailed list of what your teen will need to wear and bring specific to the trip they register for and time of the year the trip is going out.  We have an extensive inventory of clothing, and equipment and can provide anything your teen needs from the list at no charge to you.  We will need to know what they require including what size is needed at least one week prior to the trip departure date.  All group equipment including tents, cooking equipment and food is provided by the program at no charge to you.

 h. What if my teen cannot go on a trip they signed up for?

  • We recognize that sometimes things happen and plans change due to many different circumstances.  When they register, we are reserving a spot for them on that trip and most trips have a limited number of slots available.  The registration fee is non-refundable and any cancellations will be addressed on an individual case by case basis. You will need to contact the Program Director, Kevin C. Powers at kcpowers@wsu.edu at WSU Chelan County Extension 400 Washington Street Wenatchee, WA 98801 or by telephone at 509-667-6540 to discuss options.

i. Are there any additional things I need to buy for my teen in order to participate in the activity?

  • You should not expect to purchase anything outside of basic personal health and hygiene items for any of our trips.  You will be provided with a list of items your teen will want to wear and bring prior to each trip.  We have an extensive inventory of clothing and equipment and can provide your teen with anything on that list at no cost to you.

j. My teen is traveling from out of state.  What airport will they fly into?

  • For the majority of our trips you should expect to fly into Seattle Tacoma International Airport.  Depending upon the actual trip location we may utilize other airports in the region and that information will be provided in advance of the trip.

k. Is there adult assistance available at the airport for my teen?

  • WSU staff is available to meet your teen on arrival and to assist them with getting to the TSA security checkpoint on their departure.

There is also assistance available through the USO at the airport.  You can contact them directly for assistance and services.  Our staff is available to accompany your teen to the USO at the airport as needed.

l. Can my teen participate in more than one camp?

  • We want to make these camps available to as many teens as possible.  Our number one priority will always be given to placing teens that have not participated in another camp first with any slots not filled being made available to returning teens on a first come first served basis.

  • If you have a group of military teens that wishes to go on an adventure together we are more than willing to help structure a trip or activity for them.  Please contact the Program Director, Kevin C. Powers for assistance on how to we can work together with you on this.  He can be reached by email at kcpowers@wsu.edu at WSU Chelan County Extension 400 Washington Street Wenatchee, WA 98801 or by telephone at 509-667-6540.

o. How do I know my son or daughter will be safe on one of these adventure camps?
