4-H
is the youth program of WSU Extension conducted jointly by the: U.S. Department of Agriculture,
Washington State University &
Jefferson County
government.
Today 4-H is everywhere--in cities, suburbs, small towns,
and rural communities. With over 5 million members in the U.S. alone, 4-H is now also offered in over 80 countries!
Jefferson County 4-H is the largest youth development organization in our county. About 900 local youth in grades K-12 participate annually in a wide variety of exciting, local 4-H programs. 4-H Accomplishments
Healthy Families Build Strong Economies
4-H supports healthy families and a strong economy in Jefferson County through:
• Successful management of just under $2 million of grant funds over the last nine years.
• Over 160 adult 4-H leaders providing $500,000 worth of volunteer services for the county annually- equivalent to 16 full time employees.
• FREE K-12 educational opportunities, serving approx. 900 youth annually.
• Leadership and entrepreneurship training.
• Workforce preparation opportunities.
• Higher education and vocational opportunities.
• Consulting and partnerships with every youth service agency and school in the county.
• Interventions to address issues related to family crises, poverty, addiction and abuse.
