Sonia joined WSU Extension in 1999. She is responsible for overseeing the development of Extension 4-H youth programs in non-traditional populations (e.g. underserved and underrepresented communities within the Extension system state-wide) and where appropriate linking youth development to supporting the long-term viability of agriculture in King County and the state of Washington. Sonia provides leadership of educational programs in 4-H youth development, agriculture and natural resources; develops programs focused on cultural diversity, self-esteem, communication, leadership, and agriculture; provides training and workshops for youth, volunteers, organization staff, and leaders; promotes higher education in the minority population; and develops partnerships with other youth agencies.
