Welcome to Kitsap County Beach Watchers

Welcome to the Kitsap County Beach Watchers Program. Our program is a partnership with WSU Extension, SSWM and Washington Sea Grant. Our program is one of 9 WSU Extension Beach Watcher Programs in Puget Sound.

We hope you share our passion for the beauty of Kitsap County and it's nearly 300 miles of shoreline, and will join us to understand, value, and protect Kitsap County's priceless marine environment.  In the past five years Kitsap County shoreline volunteers through WSU Kitsap Extension and Washington Sea Grant through  our Native Plant and Shoreline Stewardship Advisors and Beach Naturalist volunteers have been providing education, outreach and mentoring to the citizens of Kitsap County. These volunteers are now part of the Beach Watcher Program.

Every year in shoreline education, research and outreach we give back more than 6000  hours of volunteer service in Kitsap County  - collecting data on marine plants and animals, measuring shore topography, evaluating water quality, talking with the public, conducting tours and classes, and doing hands-on work such as removing invasive weeds from fragile estuaries.

We continually work to improve, maintain and protect a thriving Puget Sound ecosystem through education, community outreach, stewardship, and research.

Our standards are high. Our programs are creative, educational and diverse, allowing every volunteer to find a perfect niche for their interests and talents.  We hope you'll join us or contact us for an educational presentation to your group, neighborhood or community.
