Kitsap County needs your input on the proposed Forest Stewardship Policy & Program
The Kitsap County Forest Stewardship Program would utilize ecosystem management principles to provide for long term health, and the human and ecological benefit of current (6,500 acres) and future County forest lands. It would be a model, public forest legacy program that uses restorative forestry methods that to return these forests to a complex, pre-settlement old-growth forest condition.

The Forest Stewardship Program would meet four basic goals:
- Enhances natural ecosystem complexity and health;
- Protects and enhances soil, water quality, and fish and wildlife habitat;
- Is biologically, socially and economically self-sustaining; and
- Provides safe, reasonable and appropriate public access to County forest land.
The intent is to capture the full range of benefits and value from county owned forest land in a manner consistent with the county's overarching value of a growing community, and a community where natural resources and systems are sustained for the benefit of current and future generations.
