Beef production remains one of the principal agricultural enterprises in Kittitas County and Washington State. Kittitas County boasts over 12,000 beef cows and hosts annually thousands of yearlings on our irrigated pastures.
COW-CALF MANAGEMENT LIBRARY
One of the most comprehensive sources for information on beef production is the Cow-Calf Management Guide & Cattle Producers Library, a compendium of publications updated biannually by a group of beef specialists from western land grant universities.
It can be purchased in hard copy from the University of Idaho's Dept. of Animal Sciences and individual articles can be accessed in both English and Spanish at csubeef.com.
KITTITAS COUNTY SMALL RANCH MANUAL
The Extension office and the Conservation District (on Mtn. View Ave.) have a free Small Ranch Manual and Rural Living Handbook that provide a thorough overview of land ownership responsibilities and practices in Kittitas County.
eXtension is a national effort to provide a one-stop website that connects you with information tailored for your location provided by experts from all over the country. While the initiative is relatively new, many topic areas have plenty of articles. The section on beef cattle is excellent.
