Food $ense Programming has been available in Mason County since 1992, focusing on changing eating and physical activity behaviors in adults and youth and increasing nutritional quality.
- Adult Programming: Food $ense brings a hands-on emotions based approach to nutrition education lessons for food stamp eligible adults. Participants discover the imortance of physical activity every day as part of a healthy lifestyle, and how choosing a variety of foods in appropriate portion sizes that are high in nutrient density support a healthy weight when balanced with physical activity.
- Youth Programming: Series of between five and twenty-five classes are offered in grades K - 8 in Shelton, Pioneer, Mary M. Knight, Southside and Hood Canal School Districts. We also provide lessons at Squaxin Island Education Center. Emphasis is placed on developing knowledge, attitudes and skills to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free milk products , choosing a variety of foods and balancing food intake with daily physical activity. Parent newsletters and access to our on line blog provide behaviorally-focused information for family involvement and support. Visit our Facebook page at Adventurebitez.
