Mason County 4-H Forestry Leadership Summer Program

The 4-H Forestry Leadership Summer Program enrolls 12-26 high school students from Mason County to learn leadership skills and experience sustainable natural resource management through service-learning projects alongside natural resource professionals. This program is designed for students who want to explore and experience activities in forestry and wildlife related careers and who have a special interest  in hands-on community service activities.

The program begins with a week of intensive low-ropes challenge course training, building teamwork, communication, and leadership skills to help the youth succeed in our program as well as the rest of their lives. The youth in our program are paid a stipend for their hard work, up to $750 for the duration of the five-week program  Participants receive one full high school credit: half for environmental science, half for service-learning. This program empowers the youth of Mason County to succeed by getting them on-track to graduate, and instilling in them a sense of intrinsic motivation to see a job through to completion.

Past projects include:

  • Habitat for Humanity House Landscaping
  • Educational nature trail building for Southside School
  • Trail building for Truman Glick Park and Oakland Bay Park
  • Wildlife conservation projects ;
