Pend Oreille County is the Jewel of the Inland Northwest! It is tucked up into the Eastern corner of Washington State, we sit on the border of Idaho and British Columbia, Canada. It is like a jewel, with its four seasons, a wonderful place to live or visit! Newport is the seat of the county and where WSU Pend Oreille County Extension is located. Come visit us!! Washington State University Pend Oreille County Extension connects the people of Pend Oreille County to the research and knowledge bases of the state's land grant research university providing solutions to local problems and stimulating local economies. Our county-based educators work with partners in your communities to provide educational programs and leverage the broad resources of a major university to resolve issues and create a positive future for the residents of Pend Oreille County.
Our local programs include natural resources, community development, tourism development, Master Gardener training, 4-H positive youth development, small acreage land stewardship, garden-enhanced nutrition education, Sense of Place, Children Cope With Divorce, and River Trail development. In addition, Washington State University provides over 2,200 publications, numerous online educational opportunities, and other statewide educational programs and technical assistance from four Research and Extension Centers, 15 Academic Departments and six of WSU's Academic Colleges
