Skamania County is the only county in Washington to have Firewise Communities USA recognition for all populated areas of the county.

The Firewise Program is currently administered by the Underwood Conservation District (UCD). The UCD serves residents of Skamania County. The mission of the UCD Firewise Program is to minimize the effects of wildfire on area residents through education, planning, and fuel reduction.
