The Energy Workforce
The WSU Energy Program is a recognized leader in the design and conduct of labor market and education research, technical assistance and the evaluation of workforce, education and training initiatives and policies that support development of the energy workforce. Our research experts have conducted studies on a broad range of workforce topics through partnerships with industry, labor, government and education agencies and institutions.
Current projects include an analysis of renewable energy industry trends and the education and training requirements for renewable energy occupations, follow-up research from a study of Green Economy Jobs in Washington State, a study of energy efficiency trends and sectors, and development of industry-defined skill standards for wind turbine technicians, combustion turbine technicians, and power plant electricians. Staff members also participate on several energy sector advisory boards, present research findings at professional conferences and association meetings, and consult with strategic policy groups at the state, regional and local level.
