Service to the Community
Formal plant clinics are located at the Thurston County Extension Office at 5033 Harrison Ave. NW and at the Olympia Farmer's Market. In addition, Master Gardener and Master Composter volunteers working in our three demonstration gardens are available during specified hours to answer gardening and composting questions.
We offer workshops on a variety of plant-related topics throughout the growing year at our three demonstration gardens. In addition, you may request a speaker or seminar for your organization by contacting the Master Gardener Program Coordinator.
The Dirt Works Garden includes a children's garden and a variety of children's activities during the summer. Click here for additional information on children's activities.
Thurston County Master Gardeners maintain three demonstration gardens scattered throughout Olympia, which showcase plants, as well as recommended composting and gardening principles.
We participate in a variety of special events throughout the year, including a booth at the Lacey Community Market, assistance with Fred Meyer's annual fuchsia sale, and educational forums at the Thurston County Fair. In 2012 we will be hosting a Demonstration Garden Festival.
The Master Gardener Foundation of Thurston County provides financial and logistical support to the programs of WSU Master Gardeners and Thurston County Master Composters. In addition, they sponsor guest speakers and field trips to gardens and nurseries throughout western Washington. Membership in the foundation is open to all.
Compost bins are available for sale, and the price is subsidized for Thurston County residents. Click here for additional information.
